Apr. 22—BEATRICE, Neb. — The Dakota Wesleyan University men’s golf team finished fourth in the team standings at the Great Plains Athletic Conference championships on Tuesday.

The Tigers shot a three-round, two-day total of 899, finishing three strokes ahead of Midland. DWU shot a three-round best of 295 in Tuesday’s final round, six strokes better than Round 1 and two strokes better than Round 2, which were played on Monday at Beatrice Country Club.

DWU had three golfers finish near the top-10 in the individual standings. Connor Calahan was the Tigers’ highest finisher, shooting a three-round total of 2-over-par 218, saving his best round for the final on Tuesday with a 1-under round of 71. He shot 74 in Round 1 before shooting 1-under-71 in Round 2.

Peyton Bettcher wasn’t far behind, firing a three-round total of 4-over for the tournament with a score of 220, good enough for a ninth-place tie. He shot his best in Round, where he finished 2-under. He shot 3-over in his other two rounds. Dakota Munger finished with an 11th-place finish with a three-round total of 5-over-221. He shot 1-over in Round 2 and 2-over in his other two rounds.

Also for DWU, Drew Norberg finished in a tie for 41st, shooting a two-day total of 24-over-240. He was the only other Tiger to play all three rounds.

Northwestern ran away with the team title, shooting 13-under par (851), the only team to finish under par, including 11-under as a team in Round 3. Hastings (889) and Morningside (892) rounded out the top three.

Axton Miller took home the individual title for Northwestern as well, shooting an event total of 7-under-209. He shot his best round on Tuesday, finishing the day with a 5-under-67 mark, the best individual round of the event. Hastings’ Gabe Escalera (5-under-211) finished second while Northwestern’s Qwenton Caldwell and Jack Laven each finished even for the event and tied for third.
