New Indiana men’s basketball coach Darian DeVries continued his portal shopping late Wednesday night and reeled in Sun Belt Conference player of the year Tayton Conerway.

Conerway led Sun Belt champion Troy (23-11) with averages of 14.2 points, 4.8 assists and 2.9 steals in 30.3 minutes per game.

The 6-foot-3 point guard is the sixth portal addition for the Hoosiers, joining Tucker DeVries (West Virginia), Conor Enright (DePaul), Reed Bailey (Davidson), Lamar Wilkerson (Sam Houston) and Jasai Miles (North Florida). Miles committed earlier Wednesday.

A native of Burleson, Texas, Conerway played at a pair of junior colleges before joining Troy in the 2023-24 season. He is expected to have one season of eligibility remaining. He reportedly also considered Mississippi State and Vanderbilt before committing to the Hoosiers.

Conerway was productive in his time at Troy. In the 2023-24 campaign, he was named the Sun Belt’s sixth man of the year after averaging 11.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.1 steals in 20 minutes per game.

In the 2024-25 season, Conerway’s 98 steals ranked third in the country.

Conerway struggled in two areas last season — he shot just 27% from 3-land, and he averaged just 7.5 points per game against power-conference opponents Arkansas, Oregon, Houston and Kentucky.
