Villanova officially introduced Kevin Willard as head men’s basketball coach on Wednesday, holding a press conference for the former Maryland coach off his Sweet 16 run.
But one of Willard’s biggest stars at Maryland seemed to notice something peculiar about the introduction.
As is customary in these press conferences, Willard had a photo op with his new program’s jersey and No. 25. The number — which obviously signified the year 2025 — happened to be Derik Queen’s number at Maryland. He also displayed the name on the back instead of the front.
Queen saw that photo and took to Twitter/X with a reaction of his own. He didn’t seem thrilled with that number being used despite Queen’s own plans to enter the NBA Draft.

Willard wouldn’t have gotten the Villanova job without Queen’s help, so the number choice honestly makes sense beyond the 2025 connection.
