The Dallas Cowboys draft class is now complete. The team had two, late seventh-round picks remaining, and decided to continue doubling up on positions they took earlier in the three-day exercise. With their sixth-round pick they went back to the offensive guard well, adding Oregon’s Ajani Cornelius, who will move over from tackle. Their first seventh-round pick was UCLA big boy Jay Toia.
With the No. 239 pick the Cowboys added a second running back in Clemson’s Phil Mafah, who is a 6-foot-1 pounder with some breakaway ability at 234 pounds. With their final pick, No. 247, the club landed on Maryland DT Tommy Akingbesote.
Mafah is known as a strong downhill runner who, while he doesn’t have much wiggle, but the extreme ability to break through potential tacklers and then get to racing to the second level.
As for Akingbesote, he’s a powerful specimen at 6-foot-4, 306 pounds. He didn’t begin playing football until his junior year at high school, and does possess a quick get off. He’ll hopefully get the chance to develop even more at the NFL level as the team grabbed him to avoid a fight for his services in undrafted free agency.
