NBA legend Charles Barkley did not hold back in his assessment of the officiating in Game 4 of the Golden State Warriors-Houston Rockets playoff series.
The Warriors trailed 57-50 at halftime but still ended up taking the 109-106 win. A big defensive play from Draymond Green on Alperen Sengun and a crucial rebound from Jimmy Butler in the closing seconds allowed the Dubs to hold on to their slim lead to secure the victory.
Butler led the way for the Warriors in scoring despite making just four points in the first half. He finished with 27 points, 14 of which came in the fourth quarter.
Second-year guard Brandin Podziemski added 26 points on 6-of-11 shooting from deep, lessening the workload on Steph Curry who was guarded heavily by the Rockets.
While the game had a thrilling end, it didn’t start that way. Instead, the two teams were heated to begin the contest, leading to plenty of extra physical moments and trash-talking before halftime.
Midway through the second quarter, Dillon Brooks fouled Curry hard, which resulted in three technical fouls being handed out to the two and Draymond Green. Jimmy Butler was also seen jawing at Brooks later in the same period.
With that said, Barkley couldn’t help but point out how the referees mismanaged the game after the Warriors’ win.
“The refs let this game get out of hands in the first half,” the NBA icon shared on “Inside the NBA.”

For what it’s worth, Charles Barkley made the same complaint at halftime as the “Inside the NBA” crew analyzed the game. In an emotional rant—where he called some Warriors stars “stupid”—he pointed out that the “refs let the game get out of control.”
Sure enough, when the Warriors and Rockets play Game 5, plenty of eyes will be on the officiating once again. After all, with the Dubs looking to close it out and Houston hoping to stay alive in the series, the emotions and intensity from both teams are expected to be at an all-time high.
