Although his contributions are often discredited, Cleveland Cavaliers legend Kevin Love was an integral piece of the team’s championship run in 2016.

He arguably had the most difficult task, being asked to change his game from a back-to-the-basket post player to a stretch four.

Love’s role was similar to Chris Bosh when the Miami Heat formed a big three with him, Dywane Wade and LeBron James.

Bosh was a perennial 20-point scorer but had to sacrifice parts of his game for the team to fit together.

Both players poured their hearts into their cities, and it seems as if Love is finally getting the appreciation he deserves.

In a heartbreaking announcement, the five-time All-Star revealed that his father passed away the day before game four of Miami’s first-round matchup with the Cavs.

He still found a way to be present for the contest despite the mental toll his dad’s passing took on him.

Love’s former teammate, Tristan Thompson is the only member of that championship team who still plays for Cleveland and the two shared a touching moment before the game that caught the attention of national audiences.

During pre-game warm-ups, Love and Thompson gave each other a hug, and it can be assumed that Thompson was trying his hardest to support his friend in his moment of need.

People today have more access to athletes than ever before, so it is easy to forget that they are human too.

It isn’t often that you see two opponents embrace before the game, but this is just a not-so-subtle reminder that some things are bigger than sports.
