Former Texas Longhorns running back Jaydon Blue has been drafted by the Dallas Cowboys. The Houston native was taken 149th in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft.
The 5’9, 196-pound back’s main attribute is speed. Blue ran a 4.38 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine despite a hamstring injury and then a more indicative 4.30 at the Texas Pro Day.
While inconsistent in 2024, Blue flashed his speed throughout the season, including game-changing touchdowns against Clemson and Ohio State.
At Texas, Blue rushed for 1,161 yards and 11 touchdowns on 214 carries alongside 56 receptions for 503 yards and seven touchdowns. Blue’s receiving ability is a huge asset for the Cowboys.
Many NFL scouts like the fact that Blue has been a backup much of his career in Austin, thus reducing the wear and tear many starting running backs get in college. Blue’s relatively low amount of carries should give him fresh legs at the next level.
