The Indianapolis Colts got their tight end when they selected Penn State’s Tyler Warren at 14th overall. But now, what about Day 2?
The Colts will enter the second and third rounds with two picks in total and one on each day. With help from Pro Football Focus, here are their top available prospects at some of the remaining positions of need that the Colts have.
Colts position of need: Offensive line
The Colts need to bring in competition at right guard. Maybe Matt Goncalves can fill that role, but that can’t be assumed either. Doing so and being wrong comes with a lot of risks for the Colts. While most are fixated on who the starting quarterback will be, I’m not sure it matters if the offensive line play isn’t stout.
In addition to competition at right guard, after losing both Will Fries and Ryan Kelly in free agency, depth along the interior is needed. When looking at tackle, that need is dependent upon where Goncalves ends up. If he does start at guard, the Colts need to bring in someone to compete with Blake Freeland for the swing tackle role.
- IOL Tate Ratledge, Georgia
- IOL Jared Wilson, Georgia
- IOL Miles Frazier
- OT Aireontae Ersery, Minnesota
- OT Ozzy Trapilo, Boston College
- OT Marcus Mbow
- OT Jonah Savaiinaea, Arizona
Colts position of need: Defensive end
Without Dayo Odeyingbo, the Colts lost over 700 defensive snaps and their leading pressure-getter from the 2024 season. So depth is needed. Also, as we look ahead to 2026, Kwity Paye, Tyquan Lewis, and Samson Ebukam are all free agents next offseason, and not to be forgotten about when it comes to the draft, but it is about planning ahead as well.
- Mike Green, Marshall
- Donovan Ezeiruaku, Boston College
- Nic Scourton, Texas A&M
- Landon Jackson, Arkansas
Colts position of need: Defensive tackle
The Colts need better play behind DeForest Buckner and Grover Stewart. In 2024, Raekwon Davis and Taven Bryan rank near the bottom of all defensive tackles in PFF’s run stop rate metric and pass rush rate metric. I’m sure the hope is that Neville Gallimore can improve the level of play and Adetomiwa Adebawore can make a jump, but the Colts can’t assume that either. In past years, it’s that assumption at other positions by Chris Ballard that has hurt this roster.
- Omarr Norman-Lott, Tennessee
- Darius Alexander, Toledo
- TJ Sanders, South Carolina
- CJ West, Indiana
- Alfred Collins, Texas
Colts position of need: Linebacker
Similarly to what we discussed along the offensive line, maybe Jaylon Carlies steps into the starting role next to Zaire Franklin relatively seamlessly. The Colts do think very highly of Carlies and he did impress last season. However–and you know where I’m going here–the prudent move would be to bring in competition, something Ballard said after the 2024 season, he wanted to do throughout the roster.
Ideally, the Colts find an added coverage presence next to Franklin, not to mention that versatility at the second and third levels in Lou Anarumo’s scheme is vital. With that said, based on Ballard’s comments last week, I’m not sure the Colts tackle this need in the top 100.
- Demetrius Knight Jr., South Carolina
- Carson Schwesinger, UCLA
- Chris Paul Jr., Ole Miss
- Danny Stutsman, Oklahoma
- Jeffrey Bassa, Oregon
Colts position of need: Running back
Ballard says the Colts need more production at this position behind Jonathan Taylor. While they did add Khalil Herbert to the mix in free agency, in no way should his presence stop the Colts from adding to this room, especially in what is such a loaded running back draft class. Also, the Colts could benefit from an added pass-catching element out of the backfield–which would add another dimension to their offense.
- Kaleb Johnson, Iowa
- Quinshon Judkins, Ohio State
- Damien Martinez, Miami
- TreVeyon Henderson, Ohio State
- Dylan Sampson, Tennessee
- Devin Neal, Kansas
Colts position of need: Safety
After signing Cam Bynum, this is flying under the radar, but beyond him and Nick Cross on the depth chart, the Colts only have Rodney Thomas, Daniel Scott, and Marcel Dabo. Also, both Thomas and Cross are free agents in 2026.
- Kevin Winston, Penn State
- Xavier Watts, Notre Dame
- Andrew Mukuba, Texas
- Nick Emmanwori, South Carolina
