La Liga giants Real Madrid have this week seen their chances of landing Xabi Alonso from Bayer Leverkusen altogether significantly increased.
This comes amid confirmed that the reigning German champions are ready to facilitate their head coach’s exit.
The name of tactician Alonso has of course taken its place centre stage in the media headlines back in his home country over recent days.
This comes amid widespread confirmation that Real Madrid are ready to ramp up their efforts to bring the Spaniard to the Santiago Bernabéu this summer.
With Carlo Ancelotti on his way out amid an underwhelming campaign to date, Alonso has been earmarked as the ideal successor on the Blancos bench.
During an exchange with the media on Monday, it therefore came as little surprise when the subject of the mounting speculation surrounding Alonso’s future was put to Bayer Leverkusen CEO Fernando Carro.
And Carro was not shy in admitting that an agreement has long been in place, to allow the former midfielder to return to one of his former clubs:
“He has no exit clause, but we have a gentleman’s agreement. If a team he has played for comes, we will sit down and talk about it and we will not put any obstacles in the way.”
