The Baltimore Orioles, after a 13-22 start and sitting at the bottom of the American League East, have made a trade on Wednesday.

Announced by the club, the Orioles are acquiring righty relief pitcher Luis F. Castillo from the Seattle Mariners in exchange for cash considerations.

To make room on the roster the team designated southpaw Walter Pennington for assignment.

The Mariners needed to make room on their 40-man roster after acquiring former Texas Rangers outfielder Leody Taveras on Tuesday.

Castillo has been optioned to Triple-A Norfolk to start his stint in Baltimore.

The 2025 MLB season has not been kind to Castillo as he has posted a 7.71 ERA in just 7.0 innings pitched for the first place Mariners.

However, seeing as the Orioles could use almost any help at this point, it was a move the Baltimore front office thinks could help them in the future.

It is not a trade that will move the needle in the short term but perhaps the team can work with Castillo to improve and a change of scenery may not hurt.

At least fans can take solace that Mike Elias and company are trying to find some sort of solution, if only marginally.
