Auburn football will look to boast its first winning season of the Hugh Freeze era this year, and one analyst believes it will happen.

FOX Sports analyst Joel Klatt recently gave Auburn “dark horse” status by placing them at No. 22 in his post-spring top 25 ranking. Auburn joins Oklahoma as a team Klatt predicts to increase its record from a year ago.

Auburn finished 5-7 in year two under Hugh Freeze, one win less than his first campaign in 2023. The Tigers failed to make a bowl appearance for the second time in three seasons and will look to win their first bowl game since 2018 this season.

The Tigers have plenty of pieces to take that forward step in 2025 with a new quarterback room, experienced offensive line and wide receiver units, and a quality defensive backfield. Keldric Faulk returns to anchor the defensive line and is projected to become a first-round pick in next year’s NFL draft. Stock is rising for the Auburn Tigers, which could make them a sneaky pick for the College Football Playoff.

Klatt is not the only expert to place Auburn in his top 25 ranking. On3’s Andy Staples recently placed Auburn at No. 13 in his post-spring ranking, and Paul Myerberg of USA TODAY lists Auburn at No. 35 in his post-spring re-rank.
