Two of Auburn’s key players were recognized following Sunday’s South Regional final for their outstanding efforts in the Tigers’ current NCAA Tournament run.
Auburn’s Johni Broome and Tahaad Pettiford were named to the 2025 South Regional Team after Auburn’s 70-64 win over Michigan State at State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia, a win that will send Auburn to its second-ever Final Four. The duo joined Michigan’s Danny Wolf, Michigan State’s Jase Richardson, and Ole Miss’ Sean Pedulla on the team.
Pettiford is having an amazing postseason to this point by averaging 17.3 points, 3.5 assists and 3.0 rebounds per game as the Tigers’ “sixth-man.” He has reached the 20-point mark twice in the NCAA Tournament and has connected on at least 50% of his shots in three of Auburn’s four NCAA Tournament games to this point. In the Tigers’ win over Michigan State, he scored 10 points while assiting with three other buckets. His best performance to date is a 23-point effort in Auburn’s round of 32 win over Creighton, when he shot 50% and connected on 7-of-8 free throw attempts. He also collected six rebounds and three assists.
Broome earned the Most Valuable Player of the South Regional. Like Pettiford, Broome also averages 17.3 points per game in the NCAA Tournament. Over the last two games, Broome has padded his Player of the Year resume by scoring notching two double-doubles and reaching over 20 points in both contests. His performance over the last two games has been valuable to Auburn considering he scored just 22 points total and made just 9-of-22 free throw attempts. He is getting hot at the right time and it is paying off for the Auburn Tigers.
Broome, Pettiford, and the rest of the Auburn Tigers will continue its season on Saturday when it battles the Florida Gators in the Final Four. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:09 p.m. CT from the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.
