Q: Adam Silver has made a joke out of our league. What is a 10th-place team doing competing for the playoffs? – Stan.

A: What every other major sports league has done, as well. Basically, you play to your market. And the American sports market is to pretend as if anyone and everyone is a playoff contender. Thus the play-in tournament. Plus, it also increases television revenue, which is what drives just about every major professional sports league. Bottom line is it not only is not going to stop anytime soon, but figure on postseason expansion elsewhere, like we have seen with the college football playoff. In many ways, we have become like youth soccer in this country, where everyone wins. So no matter what happens to the Heat in the play-in round, expect there to be plenty of snacks for everyone afterward.

Q: Ira, why is Jaime Jaquez Jr standing parked in the corner, when the entire league knows he can’t make those 3-point shots? – Fox.

A: Because the Heat have other priorities for the dunker’s spot, particularly when Kel’el Ware also is in the game. With the Heat also utilizing Bam Adebayo and, now, Kyle Anderson on the block, the opportunities for Jaime to get to his sweet spot have become limited. And based on the Heat hierarchy, those others come first when it comes to squatters rights in the low post.

Q: Shouldn’t the Heat be resting players now, getting ready for the play-in tournament? — Chris.

A: There certainly is an argument for going in that direction, considering all the recent injury absences. But the Heat’s way long has been to continue pursuing higher seeding until there no longer is a purpose for such pursuit. At the moment, the Heat still have a chance to rise in the standings, for whatever that is worth.
