You’ll see a lot of comparisons during the NFL draft cycle, especially when discussing first-round talent. Kay Adams brought it to Ashton Jeanty’s attention he’s being compared to Hall of Famers. He loves these comparisons, because he “would like to be compared to the greats.”
As for current players, Jeanty said, “I like Alvin Kamara comparison the best out of all of them.” He even went on to describe what he sees as commonalities between him and the New Orleans Saints running back.
“I think the contact balance, being able to catch the ball out of the backfield, be a receiver,” he said.
There can be an argument made that contact balance is Kamara’s best and most underrated skill. Meanwhile, catching the football is definitely an underrated tool in Jeanty’s toolbox.
Jeanty didn’t catch the football much in his final campaign, but in 2023 he caught 43 passes and scored five receiving touchdowns. His workload increased on the ground, so his production was more one dimensional last year.
One difference Jeanty sees between he and Kamara is their power.
“I do think I’m a little bit more of a powerful runner than he is, but I just feel like our running style is really similar,” he said.
Hearty does aim to run through defenders, while Kamara is more elusive. The similarity comes in the how they are able to continue to run through contact.
There’s a chance both of those runners could share the backfield together next season. If Kellen Moore wants to run an offense centered around the run game, similar to his philosophy with the Eagles, picking a running back high would make a lot of sense
