Arch Manning has claimed much of the spotlight for this season in the college football. With a NIL valuation of $6.6 million and also him being the nephew of Peyton and Eli Manning, the signal-caller is projected to achieve great things for Texas this year.
On3’s Andy Staples vaulted Texas to No. 1 in his after-spring Top 25 rankings, shifting the national title spotlight away from Ohio State.
Staples credited the arrival of Arch Manning as the Longhorns’ new starting quarterback, coupled with Steve Sarkisian’s SEC pedigree and certain roster additions, as the driving force behind Texas’s projected championship run.
“If we’re going to bet on Arch Manning, we may as well go all-in and bet that he takes the Longhorns to a national title.” Staples writes. “Texas has spots to fill on the offensive line, but the Longhorns seem confident in their recruiting and the development skills of position coach Kyle Flood. On the other side of the ball, Texas brings back enough off the edge to terrorize opposing QBs every week.”
The Ohio State Buckeyes, defending champions, have surprisingly fallen to No. 5 in his rankings.
“The Buckeyes have a lot to replace on both lines of scrimmage, and they’ll be breaking in a new quarterback.” Staples writes. “But having the nation’s best returning offensive player (receiver Jeremiah Smith) and the nation’s best returning defensive player (safety Caleb Downs) is incredible foundation on which to build.”
Whether Manning is capable of getting the Longhorns a title will be seen when he faces his first test under center against Ohio State’s stout defense in Columbus, the season opener this fall on August 30.
