The Minnesota Timberwolves slammed the Los Angeles Lakers117-95 in Game 1 of their first-round playoff series on Saturday, and all of a sudden, the Lakers are in quite a bit of trouble. They allowed Minnesota to impose its will on them physically, which led to major deficits on the boards, in the paint, in transition and in 3-point shooting.

It was the first Game 1 the Lakers played at Crypto.com Arena since 2012, but their fans were shocked into a state of stunned silence for most of the contest. Lakers fans have often been criticized for their lower decibel levels compared to some other fan bases, and Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards took a shot at the environment at Crypto.com Arena, especially compared to Ball Arena in Denver.

“An atmosphere like this, it’s easy for me, man,” Edwards said. “I’ve played in Denver, man. Denver is a tough place to play on the road. So I mean, it was nothing.”

In the second round of last year’s playoffs, the Timberwolves went into Ball Arena to face the then-defending NBA champion Denver Nuggets and instantly stole the first two games. They ultimately took the series by dominating the second half of Game 7.

Lakers fans will need to bring plenty of energy and passion into Game 2, but so will the Lakers themselves. Another loss would put them on the very edge of the proverbial ledge, since the following two games will take place in Minneapolis.
