Amidst all the excitement and hoopla surrounding Caitlin Clark’s entry into the WNBA last year, it’s easy to forget there was another stellar rookie in the league last year.
Angel Reese, the No. 7 pick in last year’s draft out of Louisiana State, averaged 13.6 points and 13.1 rebounds a game for the Chicago Sky and was the runner-up in the Rookie of the Year balloting.
While the Sky struggled, she will get some help this season in the form of rookie guard Hailey Van Lith.
Reese reacted to a post by the Sky on Instagram on Sunday as training camp began for the 2025 campaign.
“Year 2,” she wrote. “Day 1”
Reese was a big star during her two years at LSU. She averaged 23.0 points, 15.4 rebounds, 1.8 steals and 1.6 blocks during the 2022-23 season, her first with the Tigers, while leading them to the women’s NCAA championship over Clark’s Iowa Hawkeyes.
She was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player that year and put up 15 points, 10 boards and five assists in the title game.
The following year, she won the SEC Player of the Year before heading to the pros.
Reese made the WNBA All-Star Game last year while leading the league in rebounds per game. A 6-foot-3 forward, she is physical and rugged, and she isn’t afraid to mix things up.
On Saturday, May 17, the Sky will begin their 2025 schedule on the road versus Clark’s Indiana Fever in what should be a riveting matchup during the first weekend of the WNBA season.
