For the first time since 2023, the Alabama Crimson Tide have had a player selected in the WNBA draft.
Yes, on Monday night, Alabama saw its’ latest player drafted into the WNBA, as star guard Sarah Ashlee Barker was selected with the No. 9 overall pick in the first round. Barker was drafted by the Los Angeles Sparks, becoming the first Crimson Tide player drafted since 2023, as well as the first within the Top 10 since 2021.
A native of Alabama, Barker originally began her collegiate career at Georgia where she spent two seasons prior to transferring to the Crimson Tide. Over the last three seasons, Barker has averaged a combined 13.9 points, 5.8 rebounds, 3 assists, and 1.8 steals per game on 47.7% shooting from the field, as well as 34.8% from three and 69.8% at the free throw line.
This past season, Barker led the Crimson Tide with an average of 18.2 points per game on 51.4% shooting from the field, while also averaging 6.3 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and 2 steals per game. Barker also shot 37.5% from three, as well as 70.9% at the free throw line, and was a First Team All-SEC selection who ended her career with one of the greatest performances in Crimson Tide history during the NCAA Tournament.
