The San Francisco 49ers may be looking to trade back in the first round of this year’s draft. It sounds like they may not have an opportunity to do so.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Monday reported the 49ers are one of eight teams looking to trade down in the first round. They’re joined by the Jacksonville Jaguars and Carolina Panthers, which are both picking ahead of San Francisco. The Atlanta Falcons, Seattle Seahawks, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Minnesota Vikings are the other teams looking to slide backward.

The problem for San Francisco is that the market for a trade up isn’t expected to be robust. Schefter only cited the Denver Broncos as a team looking to move up.

Via ESPN:

There has been, however, a lack of teams willing to trade up — at least so far. Denver is one of those: The Broncos have made inquiries about moving up in Round 1, according to sources. But there aren’t many others. This always could change when players start falling and teams are on the clock.

Perhaps the 49ers get lucky and a player slides out of the top 10 that entices a team like Denver to jump up. Ideally there would be a player multiple teams suddenly want to move up for and San Francisco can start a bidding war for the 11th pick. For now, that doesn’t seem likely and they may be forced to stand pat in the first round and take a player they may have been able to get later in the first round.
