With the NFL draft almost here, we will be taking a position-by-position look at the current state of the Jacksonville Jaguars’ roster.

Up first, let’s start at quarterback.

Who’s on the roster at quarterback for the Jaguars?

  • Trevor Lawrence
  • Nick Mullens
  • John Wolford

Free agency moves at quarterback

There was actually quite a bit of movement here this offseason. The Jaguars chose not to re-sign Mac Jones nor CJ Beathard. Jones would end up landing in San Francisco on a two-year, $7 million deal, while Beathard is still a free agent.

Instead, as the Jaguars shift to Liam Coen’s offense, they wanted to bring in two quarterbacks who are familiar with that scheme, which can help Trevor Lawrence as the playbook is implemented.

Wolford spent some time last season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where Coen was the offensive coordinator. Mullens, meanwhile, was most recently with the Minnesota Vikings, and worked with current Jaguars’ offensive coordinator Grant Udinski, and did so in a system under Kevin O’Connell that has a lot of overlap with Coen’s.

“Yeah, without a doubt that familiarity plays a major role, and it was a part of why we sort of tilted in favor of some players over another,” James Gladstone said via Jaguars on SI.

Mullens went undrafted in 2017 and has played with San Francisco and Cleveland. For his career, he’s completed 66% of his passes at 8.0 yards per attempt with 34 touchdowns to 31 interceptions, according to PFF.

Need in the NFL draft

Obviously, the need here is incredibly low. The Jaguars don’t only have their starter in place but they have their backup as well.

Perhaps, because 10 draft picks do provide the Jaguars with the flexibility to address a variety of positions, GM James Gladstone takes a swing on a Day 3 prospect to compete with Wolford for that third spot on the depth chart.

Regardless of the quarterback situation, it’s never a bad idea to have a developmental prospect on the roster at the game’s most important position. But with that said, if I were to guess, I don’t think the Jaguars make an addition here in the draft.
