The Green Bay Packers guaranteed $115,000 to undrafted free agent signing Johnathan Baldwin, a versatile defensive back out of UNLV, according to Rob Demovsky of ESPN. The guaranteed money includes a $15,000 signing bonus and $100,000 guaranteed salary in 2025.
Teams often use guaranteed money to win bidding wars over undrafted players following the draft. Baldwin, who is coming off a terrific senior season, was clearly a prioritized player for several teams, and the Packers used guaranteed money to get him to Green Bay.
The Packers listed Baldwin as a cornerback, but versatility is his calling card — he played over 700 snaps at free safety, in the slot and in the box for UNLV over his four seasons.
Baldwin (6-0, 190) was a second-team All-Mountain West pick in 2024. He intercepted six career passes, including a career-high three in 2024. He also added 9.5 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks and 13 pass breakups during his standout final season.
According to PFF, Baldwin played a team-high 945 snaps defensively for UNLV in 2024, producing 14 pressures and 27 stops while giving up 39 catches and a passer rating of only 77.3. He was terrific as a blitzer from the slot and made several tackles at or behind the line of scrimmage on quick screens and gadget plays.
The Packers waited until the seventh round to take a cornerback and didn’t draft a safety, so Baldwin will get a legitimate shot at making the 53-man roster or sticking on the practice squad as a rookie. If a cornerback, he’ll battle the likes of Kalen King and Kamal Hadden for a spot on the depth chart.
Baldwin ran the 40-yard dash in 4.50 seconds but didn’t test well during the pre-draft process. At 190 pounds, he scored poorly in terms of both explosion (vertical leap, broad jump) and agility (short shuttle, three cone). His Relative Athletic Score as a cornerback was 5.16.
Highlights:
The Packers announced the signing of Baldwin and nine other undrafted free agents on Friday. Packers Wire will have a full breakdown of the 10-player undrafted class next week.
