Being open about one’s mental health and the struggles one may go through is never easy. On Monday, during his media session, J.J. McCarthy did just that. During his time at Michigan, he has been open about meditation and other approaches he has used to stay mentally balanced.
One thing he specifically opened up about was how he has handled his ADHD and found balance with it ahead of his second NFL season.
“I came across this quote, people with ADHD, they find calm in the chaos and chaos in the calm, and I’ve felt like, ever since I was a kid, any competitive environment I was in, I just felt like I was at home. Obviously playing at Michigan, there’s 110,000 [fans in the stadium] and you’re at one of the most prominent universities out there — that’s just where I feel most comfortable.”
McCarthy finished by adding a nice final touch, saying, “When the lights are brightest, the stage is the biggest stage out there,” he added. “And yeah, I know it’s going to be a lot more of that to come.”
Is the season ready for kickoff yet? McCarthy just seems like he is ready to lead this franchise into a pivotal chapter, one that many fans will be proud of.
