The Washington Commanders are riding a major high after their most successful season in almost 30 years. The team’s run to the conference title game was one of the more improbably success stories in league history.

And now?

They have taken that momentum into the offseason as well. The team added top players across the board with hopes they’ll be able to exceed their increased expectations from last season.

Arguably the pinnacle of the success, in a sense, came out just 24 hours ago. Washington has announced an agreement to build a new building at the site of the old RFK Stadium – the former home of the franchise for over 30 years.

RFK saw three Super Bowl titles and numerous big-game appearances over its history. During that time, the Commanders were of course known by a different name, though.

And while a return to their old site will bring excitement for the fans, the franchise won’t be going back to that old name anytime soon.

Speaking on FOX News Tuesday evening, Commanders owner Josh Harris said that, despite the future move, the organization won’t revert to its old Redskins moniker.

“The Commanders’ name actually has taken on an amazing kind of element in our building,” Harris responded to a question about the Redskins name coming back as part of this new stadium deal. “So, the people that certain types of players that are tough, that love football, are delegated Commanders and Jayden [Daniels], for example, is a Commander, and they’re ranked.”

Washington has a team to be proud of for the first time in decades. With the Commanders name finally bringing in pride, the organization seems to be willing and ready to continue forward with what they have.

It’s worked so far at the very least!
