The fall of Shedeur Sanders was the talk of the 2025 NFL draft weekend. The former Colorado quarterback was selected in the fifth round by the Cleveland Browns. Outside of Sanders’ surprising fall down draft boards, he was pranked during the draft, with the caller pretending to be New Orleans Saints general manager Mickey Loomis.
He wasn’t the only NFL player pranked on draft weekend. Oregon offensive tackle Josh Conerly Jr. went No. 29 overall to the Washington Commanders. However, the All-American lineman thought he was going sooner, to the Denver Broncos, which picked at No. 20 overall.
Conerly joined “Grant & Danny” on 106.7 The Fan on Tuesday and revealed how he received a prank call.
“I got one prank call, it was somebody in Colorado acting like they were the Broncos,” Conerly said.
“But besides that, I didn’t really get all the multiple ones like everybody else. I can only feel for them because mine wasn’t as bad and, like, as cruel as some of the other ones. But yeah, I mean, with guys that are waiting multiple days and, you know, getting four or five calls, it’s just insane.”

Why haven’t we heard more about Conerly’s prank call? Tyler Warren and Kyle McCord also received prank calls. They probably weren’t the only ones. Last year, it was cornerback Cooper DeJean, whom the Eagles drafted in the second round.
Conerly laughed it off, but it is cruel. These players are in the middle of the biggest weekend of their lives, and for this to happen is unfair. Now, some of the reactions to Sanders receiving a prank call are a bit over the top. We aren’t going to get into the who and the why. We know why Sanders is receiving more attention. He is the son of a Hall of Fame player and a prominent college football coach. He’s also a quarterback and one who was expected to be selected much higher.
McCord is also a quarterback. Don’t you think he expected to go higher than No. 181 overall? He had to wait, and to be pranked, like Sanders, was probably excruciating.
Regardless, Conerly took it well, and things worked out well for him. Hopefully, things work out well for Sanders, Warren, McCord and others.
