The Washington Nationals fell to the New York Mets on Monday, 19-5, in what was a blowout from the start. Washington fell to 13-16 on the season with the loss, as they struggled to keep up with the explosive Mets’ offensive attack.

This game was tied for the second-most runs the Nationals have allowed in a game in team history. This is some unfortunate team history that the Nationals allowed in the game.

The Mets blew the game open in the seventh inning, scoring five runs. New York then scored four runs in the eighth inning and four runs in the ninth inning to get to 19 runs.

Starting pitcher Trevor Williams got rocked in his outing, giving up five runs over 5.1 innings of work. It was a poor outing for Williams, and New York took full advantage of the situation.

Reliever Cole Henry also gave up five runs, giving more concern to the Washington bullpen. As a team, the Nationals’ pitching continues to let them down, as the ERA sits at 5.12 for the season.

The crucial player in this game was Brandon Nimmo of the Mets, who drove in nine RBIs in the game. Nimmo was able to see the ball very well against the Nationals in the game, and he single-handedly won the game for New York.

Washington will try to bounce back from this loss in Game 2 of the series on Tuesday. They will be sending MacKenzie Gore to the mound as they begin a series against the rival Philadelphia Phillies on the road.
