When the Tennessee Titans used their number one overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft to select Miami quarterback Cam Ward, they had expected him and Will Levis to compete for the starting position. He demonstrated incredible leadership skills during his visit to Nashville, earning praise from Brian Callahan.

“He interacted with everyone in our building,” Callahan said ahead of the draft. “There wasn’t a person in the building that didn’t come away impressed. There’s an aura to him. He draws people to him.”

Ward will absolutely compete for the starting position, and he is already showing signs of being a great leader. As the first pick, Ward had the benefit of watching the Titans make their remaining selections to see who his new teammates would be. But he wasn’t just watching the draft to see who the Titans would pick, he also made sure to text each one of the draft picks to congratulate them on joining the Titans.

“I can just tell he’s a great leader,” Gunnar Helm said. “He called me when I was on the phone with them. I couldn’t answer. Then he texted me right away. I’m just super excited to get there, get with him.”

“He texted me right after I got the call,” Elic Ayomanor said. “He was the number one pick in the draft for a reason. I’m very excited to be able to have the opportunity to play with him and practice with him.”

Chimere Dike expressed his excitement as well, “I played against Cam [Ward] three times in college. He’s a really good player, so I can’t wait to get to work with him and build that chemistry.”

Every Titans draftee received at least a text message, if not a phone call, from someone many expect to be the starting quarterback for the foreseeable future. As a player who’s worked harder than most to get where he is, a zero-star recruit who started his collegiate journey at Incarnate Word, Cam Ward already displays the work ethic and leadership of a professional football player.

One of Ward’s jobs as the leader of the offense is to get his guys on the same page. Bonding with his new teammates will be a huge part of that, and it’s a process he’s already started.
