Seven Texas Longhorns heard their name called on Day 3 of the 2025 NFL Draft.
Much of the attention was centered around quarterback Quinn Ewers’ draft slide to the seventh round, but one of the most exciting picks of the day came when the Dallas Cowboys selected Texas running back Jaydon Blue with the No. 149 overall pick.
The Cowboys were clearly targeting a running back during this draft as it was a primary position of need and many were upset that Dallas didn’t select one within the first few rounds. However, it was worth the wait as the Cowboys somehow ended up with one of the fastest running backs in the draft who also excels as a pass-catcher.
It’s also an excellent landing spot for Blue, who should find immediate playing time as a rookie in Dallas as a third-down/change-of-pace back behind veterans Miles Sanders and Javonte Williams.
Cowboys fans were ecstatic to land Blue in the fifth round. “Jaydon Blue is better than every running back on this roster,” one fan commented. “The Jaydon Blue pick is a dream for the Cowboys,” another added. “The Cowboys got an absolute steal in Jaydon Blue. This dude can take it to the house anytime he touches the ball. Exactly what Dallas needed,” one said.

Blue split time with Tre Wisner last season but still managed to rush for 730 yards and eight touchdowns. He also added 368 yards and six touchdowns through the air. More impressively, Blue recorded three plays of 45 yards or more last year.
Dallas is now home to two former Texas stars in Blue and linebacker DeMarvion Overshown.
