FOXBOROUGH — After two trades, the Patriots selected Georgia center Jared Wilson at No. 95 overall late in the third round.
New England originally had pick No. 77 and traded down eight spots, getting No. 85 and No. 146 (5th round) in return from the Chiefs. Then they took No. 85 and traded down again, getting No. 95 and a 2026 4th round pick from the Bears.
So ultimately, to move down 20 spots, the Patriots added an extra 4th (next year) and 5th round pick.
There they added Wilson, perhaps the highest graded pure center in the 2025 NFL Draft.
The 6-foot-3, 310-pounder is still a bit raw — he only started one season for the Bulldogs — but he’s very athletic. Wilson ran a 4.84 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine, the fastest of any offensive lineman, and can pull well accordingly.
“Still relatively inexperienced, he needs to develop his consistency as a drive blocker in the run game and when working underneath defenders to anchor in pass protection,” The Athletic’s Dane Brugler writes. “Overall, Wilson lacks premium size and is fundamentally rough around the edges, but he sports the body control, movement skills and football IQ to lock down a long-term starting center role. His game is reminiscent of Rodney Hudson’s, and he should compete for immediate starting reps.”
Selected at No. 95 overall, Wilson was Daniel Jeremiah’s 55th rated prospect. It was a mild surprise that he was still available late in the third round.
With veteran center Garrett Bradbury signed earlier this offseason, the Patriots should be able to take their time in developing Wilson. There’s no rush.
