Chelsea’s goalkeeper situation remains a confusing one.

Most reports from people well connected at the club claim that the Blues are happy with the options they already have, and won’t be looking to made additions in the summer. The fact that young Mike Penders has broken into the first team at Genk and that Djordje Petrovic has done so well in Ligue 1 this season on loan at Petrovic adds credibility to those ideas.

However there’s always the sense that that’s just a bit of a smokescreen, an attempt to cover up some of the catastrophic transfers these sporting directors have made in that position so far and to disguise our real intentions for the summer.

Certainly the “nothing to see here” briefs coming out of the club don’t match up with what we’re getting in the rumour mill. We continued to be linked to top stopper like Diogo Costa, who had a swirl of chatter around him this week linking him to both us and to Manchester City.

Kobel on Chelsea’s shortlist for new goalie

He’s not the only one – yesterday reports in France focused on Gregor Kobel of Borussia Dortmund, with FootMercato claiming that the 27 year old is ready to leave the German side as soon as this summer.

They say that both the Blues and Newcastle have “initiated contacts” with Kobel’s agent, who is going to be in London in the coming days to “continue discussions.”

Dortmund have already prepared for the departure of their number one by signing Diant Ramaj from Ajax in January. All in all we certainly believe that Kobel is set to leave Dortmund, and that he would be an upgrade on Robert Sanchez. But will he be coming to Chelsea? We’re not so sure.
