Fans waited patiently for the New England Patriots to add another receiving weapon to the room, and the team didn’t let them down in its selection of Washington State’s Kyle Williams in the third round of the 2025 NFL draft.

Williams was the best separator on the entire draft board and a potential steal for the Patriots at No. 69. He’s an exceptional playmaker with the ball in his hands. Get him the ball and watch him turn it upfield for a potential home run play.

His quick feet make him a nightmare to cover in one-on-one situations. It wasn’t uncommon to see him blow by defenders for big plays in college. During his run with Washington State last season, he averaged 17.1 yards per reception in a year where he compiled 70 catches for 1,198 yards and 14 touchdowns.

Williams is a solid wide receiver with the ability to contribute right out of the gate in New England. NFL analyst and former quarterback Chris Simms even went as far as calling Williams the No. 2 receiver opposite Stefon Diggs.

“My man Kyle Williams. WR2 this year. Blown away by the film,” Simms posted on X. “Quickest feet in the draft combined with real acceleration. He runs away from people all the time. Pats and Drake Maye got a gem.”

The Patriots stayed true to their goal of building quality talent around second-year quarterback Drake Maye. Williams is a legitimate offensive threat who will keep opposing defenses from keying in on Diggs.

The moves made so far in the draft, including the picks for offensive tackle Will Campbell, running back TreVeyon Henderson and center Jared Wilson ensure the Patriots will have a much-improved offense in 2025.

Grade: A
