The New York Jets continued to address the various needs of the team after they drafted LSU tight end Mason Taylor with the 42nd overall pick (second round) of the 2025 NFL Draft on Friday. Taylor comes to New York with the first season of 100 catches and 1,000 receiving yards for a tight end in LSU school history and quarterback Justin Fields will love to be throwing the ball to Taylor as one of his targets.

Taylor, listed at 6-foot-5 and 250 pounds, brings a level of receiving ability that the Jets have not seen at tight end in quite some time with the way that he gets open against a number of different coverages. At his size, Taylor should be able to made contested catches for Fields and could also develop into more than just a security blanket in the middle of the field.

Incumbent tight end Jeremy Ruckert would be Taylor’s primary competition heading into training camp this summer, but if Taylor is able to show his receiving ability on a consistent basis, he should be the team’s primary tight end before the season is over. For those who are wondering what Taylor’s pro comparison is, ESPN NFL Draft analyst Matt Miller compares him to Washington Commanders tight end Zach Ertz.

Here is what the national media had to say following the Jets‘ selection of Taylor:
