With recent injury news putting Derek Carr’s future in doubt the New Orleans Saints absolutely needed to add talent to their quarterback room at some point in the 2025 NFL Draft. While they did just that with the 40th overall selection, it just wasn’t who anyone expected as they snagged Louisville signal caller Tyler Shough to potentially come in and compete for the newly opened starting role.
Shough is considered by many to be the cleanest passer out of this quarterback group and has battled to be put into the position of being taken this high despite being 25 years old and having a large injury history. The Saints will likely end up having Shough face off against last years quarterback draft pick in Spencer Rattler for the starting gig with Carr potentially missing the rest of next season, and Shough is well positioned to snag that role given what he has put on tape. It is a bit of a head scratcher to take Shough over someone like Shedeur Sanders who is curiously still on the board.
