Tennessee is in search of a transfer quarterback to add to its 2025 football roster following spring practices.

Former Vol starting quarterback Nico Iamaleava committed to UCLA after sporing football, leaving Tennessee with two signal-callers on roster in redshirt freshman Jake Merklinger and early enrollee true freshman George MacIntyre.

UCLA senior quarterback Joey Aguilar will enter the NCAA transfer portal, according to Matt Zenitz of 247Sports.

The Vols are one of three schools for Aguilar’s transfer commitment.

“Tennessee, Tulane and Wake Forest are early schools to watch for UCLA transfer QB Joey Aguilar, Pete Nakos reports,” On3 announced.

Aguilar transferred to UCLA after the 2024 season from Appalachian State. The 6-foot-3, 220-pound quarterback played at Appalachian State from 2023-24 after transferring from Diablo Valley Community College.

Aguilar appeared in 25 games, including 24 starts, at Appalachian State, completing 511-of-850 passing attempts for 6,760 yards, 56 touchdowns and 24 interceptions. He also totaled 456 rushing yards and five touchdowns on 140 attempts.

From 2021-22 at Diablo Valley Community College, he totaled 2,992 passing yards and 21 touchdowns.
