Miami Hurricanes defensive lineman Joshua Horton transferred to the Georgia Bulldogs, and now, the Bulldogs could be in the running for another elite defensive lineman from an ACC school. The Bulldogs are “in the mix” among four teams for Syracuse defensive tackle Maraad Watson, according to Hayes Fawcett. Texas, Ohio State, and Tennessee are the other contenders to land Watson.

Watson was a four-star prospect from the class of 2024 when he committed to the Syracuse Orange. In his freshman season, Watson earned 30 tackles, one pass deflected, and one sack. Despite being a freshman, Watson earned a starting role on Syracuse head coach Fran Brown‘s defensive line in Week 6.

Georgia landed Miami transfer Joshua Horton, but they could absolutely use more help on the defensive line. The Bulldogs are losing projected first-round draft pick edge rushers Mykel Williams and Jalon Walker. UGA is also losing defensive tackles Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins, Nazir Stackhouse, and Warren Brinson to the 2025 NFL draft.

Front seven defenders Damon Wilson,Jamaal Jarrett, and Sam M’Pemba all left via the transfer portal. In terms of pass rush productivity, the Bulldogs don’t return any players that recorded three sacks or more in 2024.

Watson is the No. 56 ranked player in the transfer portal. He is ranked as a four-star transfer and is the top available transfer. He would immediately help solidify Georgia’s defensive line.
