Former Vol Garrett Crochet made his fifth start of the 2025 MLB season Saturday for the Red Sox. He faced his former team after being traded by Chicago following the 2024 season.
Crochet pitched six innings and recorded seven strikeouts. He allowed four hits, zero runs and two walks. Crochet totaled 96 pitches, including 63 strikes, against 24 batters.
The former Vol totaled 14 first-pitch strikes. 19 of Crochet’s 63 strikes were called strikes, while 17 were swinging, 12 were from foul balls and 15 were in-play strikes. Chicago also hit into five ground outs and six fly outs against the 6-foot-6, 245-pound left-handed pitcher.
Crochet was traded from the White Sox to Boston after the 2024 MLB season. He played for Chicago from 2020-24 and appeared in 105 games, including 33 starts. Crochet (9-19) recorded 296 strikeouts for the White Sox.
He was selected by the White Sox in the 2020 Major League Baseball draft (No. 11 overall).
Crochet (10-9) played for the Vols from 2018-20, appearing in 36 games. He recorded 149 strikeouts during his career at Tennessee.
The former Vol went to Tennessee from Ocean Springs High School in Ocean Springs, Mississippi.
Crochet was also selected by Milwaukee in the 34th round of the 2017 MLB draft. He signed with the Vols over Texas and Tulane.
