Don’t leave Spencer Rattler out of the conversation when discussing the New Orleans Saints quarterback situation. Most of the news revolves around Derek Carr’s future in 2025 or which quarterback the Saints will draft and when they will draft him.
All valuable conversations, but the variable of Rattler shouldn’t be forgotten. ESPN’s Matt Miller reported the Saints “still like his ability and upside a lot.”
It’s important to remember, “this is the same front office that drafted Spencer Rattler in the fifth round last year.” However, this is not the same coach, and Kellen Moore should have the final say in the matter.
It’s nice to know there are people in the building who like Rattler, and it makes sense the members of the front office would retain the same opinion, but the coach needs to be included in that bunch as well. Otherwise, the Saints are going to draft another quarterback for the third year in a row.
With Moore being an offensive minded head coach, the final call should go to him. The front office’s opinion could push him to stay put and see if the right quarterback drops to them during each round. Rattler’s favor could lead to a competition in training camp if the team picks a quarterback late Day 2 or Day 3.
Moore has excused Rattler’s record as a rookie and complimented some of the flashes he was able to show. All in all, Moore didn’t give a lot to gauge how he felt about the second year player. The tone was positive and sounded like he’d be willing to work with Rattler, but it’s no telling if Moore likes Rattler as much as the front office. That will be discovered over the course of seven rounds.
