The Detroit Tigers have placed a second reliever on the injured list in as many days.

On Saturday afternoon, the Tigers placed right-handed reliever John Brebbia on the 15-day injured list with a right triceps strain. Brebbia, in his first year with the Tigers, threw 31 pitches in a one-inning relief outing Friday night’s win over Kansas City.

In a corresponding move, the Tigers called up left-handed reliever Bailey Horn from Triple-A Toledo. The Tigers first acquired Horn in November off waivers from the Boston Red Sox, before designating him for assignment in December. Horn signed with the Cardinals, who then traded him back to the Tigers in March for cash considerations.

Detroit Tigers pitcher John Brebbia (49) throws against New York Yankees during the ninth inning at Comerica Park in Detroit on Wednesday, April 9, 2025.

Brebbia joins right-handed reliever Beau Brieske as Tigers bullpen members who have landed on the IL in the last two days. The Tigers recalled Brenan Hanifee, who briefly went down to make room for starter Keider Montero, to replace Brieske.

Horn has pitched 8⅓ innings over five appearances for Triple-A Toledo with a 6.48 ERA. He has allowed six runs on 12 hits and eight walks, along with 11 strikeouts in 2025. Last year, he made 18 relief appearances for the Red Sox and had a 6.50 ERA over 18 innings.

Prior to Saturday’s game against the Royals, manager A.J. Hinch said Brebbia’s consistency on the mound recently has not been up to par to his performances at the start of the season. Brebbia loaded the bases with one out in the eighth inning with a hit and two walks, but escaped the jam unscathed with a strikeout and infield pop out.

“His first couple outings, we were talking about how efficient he was being as a strike thrower and he can generate some quick at-bats,” Hinch said. “Recently, he’s had longer innings due to sort of wavering stuff. He did come up with some big pitches yesterday that, as the game turned out, we needed those outs.”
