What type of trade offers might the Commanders receive to trade out of the first round of next Thursday’s 2025 NFL draft?
The Commanders indeed still own their No. 29 pick position in the first round of this year’s draft. However, they also only own five draft picks thus far for this draft. Thus, it stands to reason that if the Commanders could trade down once or twice, they would then receive back one or two more draft choices, bringing their total selections back up to one per round.
Jeremy Greene of Sportsocracy and Craig Hoffman conducted an NFL mock draft via the use of a Pro Football Focus draft simulator. Sure enough, when it was time for the Commanders to be on the clock, there were trade offers available at No. 29 for Washington. Keep in mind the trade offers are merely guides, providing fans a framework of what it would mostly likely require from the two teams for a trade to become official.
- Washington trading 29 & 205 to the Jacksonville Jaguars for pick number 36 and a 2026 round two selection.
- Washington would trade 29 back one spot to Buffalo (30 overall). The Commanders would also move 205 to Buffalo for 109.
- Washington would send pick 29 and 128 to the Tennessee Titans for the 35th overall pick and a 2026 second-round selection.
- In this mock draft, Greene accepted the second offer, and Washington moved back one spot to 30 and received the Bills’ pick at 109.
- Interestingly enough, two more offers came to Washington at No. 30. Greene and Hoffman chose to trade the No. 30 and No. 245 selections to the Seahawks for selections 52, 82, and 92.
- Because the Commanders’ target (Donovan Ezeiruaku) was still on the board at 39, Greene suggested they call the Bears and make a trade. Washington then traded picks at 52 and 82 to the Bears for the 39th overall selection. They then used the 39th pick for Ezeiruaku.
It was a good exercise to provide fans a glimpse into what types of trades are offered, rejected and accepted in an NFL draft.
