The 2025 NFL draft is less than a week away as the New York Giants have a crucial decision to make with the third overall pick.

It seems like a forgone conclusion that University of Miami quarterback Cam Ward will be going to the Tennessee Titans with the first overall pick. However, it’s hard to predict what the Cleveland Browns and Giants are going to do with the following selections.

Earlier this week, Joe Rivera of USA TODAY released a mock draft in which the Giants would land a player they have been heavily connected to in recent weeks: Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter.

Carter plays with aggression and he’s really good with his hands. This was his first year playing defensive end and on the edge, so there’s no telling how good he can be with more experience at the position. His combination of athletic traits, explosiveness and potential upside is off the charts.

The Giants have been linked to Carter for a while now. Although they did join quarterback Sheduer Sanders for a private workout this week, it does seem to be trending more toward the team targeting Carter or wide receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter.

The Giants put themselves in a good position entering the draft. After signing Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston in free agency, they are much less desperate to force themselves to pick a quarterback at third overall.

Carter would add to a defensive line full of talent between Dexter Lawrence, Brian Burns and Kayvon Thibodeaux. The challenge of having them all on the field at the same time is a good problem to have.

The term “generational talent” has certainly been connected to Carter’s name ahead of the draft and general manager Joe Schoen would certainly be happy to land the Penn State Product.
