The Chicago Bears are sitting in a prime position to land another impact player with the 10th overall pick. But there’s been plenty of speculation about which direction they could turn.

One name that’s gained a lot of steam with the Bears is Penn State tight end Tyler Warren, who head coach Ben Johnson raved about and defensive coordinator Dennis Allen noted how much of a headache he’ll be for opposing defenses.

But what happens if Warren isn’t available? According to The Ringer’s Todd McShay, the Bears could consider drafting Michigan tight end Colston Loveland should Warren be off the board by No. 10.

While Warren has been widely considered the best tight end in this draft class, Loveland is nothing to shake your head at. Despite Michigan’s quarterback struggles last season, Loveland posted career highs in receptions (56) and touchdowns (5) while totaling 582 receiving yards.

While some Bears fans might not be keen to selecting a tight end at 10th overall, McShay believes that Warren and Loveland could have a big impact in Chicago. Especially with Johnson now calling the shots on offense.

“Call me in October when your young quarterback who had all that trouble last year now has a coach that can cook up some schemes in the lab and utilize those two tight ends,” McShay said. “Now we can be in 12-personnel, and now we are a headache.”

After an impactful offseason where they shored up needs in the offensive and defensive trenches, the Bears will be able to draft the best available player rather than for need. Could Loveland be that guy at 10th overall? We’ll have to see how the board falls next Thursday night.
