With two outs and the tying run at the plate in the bottom of the seventh, Cade Ogden had one more pitch to throw.

And he made it count.

Ogden allowed a grounder to short, watching calmly as Dylan Burks secured the final out and sealed Sequoyah’s 4-2 District 3A-6 road win Tuesday over Kansas. The gritty complete-game performance featured 10 strikeouts, no walks and a steady command that helped the Eagles bounce back from Monday’s loss to the Comets

Sequoyah (14-8, 7-3 district) struck first in the top of the third when Clayton Miller led off with a double and scored on a two-out RBI single from Ryder Smalley.

Kansas tied it in the bottom half when Landon Pilcher doubled home Aiden Graham, but Ogden stranded two Comets in scoring position with one of his many clutch strikeouts.

In the fifth, Miller sparked another rally with his second double of the game before Derick Cole gave Sequoyah the lead for good with a groundout RBI that made it 2-1.

The Eagles added two key insurance runs in the sixth — the first on a throwing error that scored Burks, and the second on Ryker Peters’ sacrifice fly that plated Ogden.

Ogden also did damage at the plate, finishing 2-for-4 with a run scored. Miller added two doubles, while Smalley, Burks and Cole each drove in a run.

Kansas (15-7, 7-3) trimmed the deficit to 4-2 in the bottom of the seventh when Zack Adams reached on an error and scored on Tristin Anglin’s two-out triple. However, Ogden shut the door one batter later to preserve the win.

Sequoyah next hosts Oklahoma Union at 4:30 p.m. Thursday for a nondistrict matchup.
