New Texas A&M head basketball coach Bucky McMillan is officially making a significant impact in the transfer portal after landing former North Alabama star guard Jacari Lane, followed by Kansas transfer forward Zach Clemence last weekend. However, Thursday’s news that former five-star prospect and sophomore forward Mackenzie Mgbako committed to the Aggies was a signal that the Aggies could be competitors in Year 1 under McMillan.
Mgbako is the highest-rated player to commit to the Texas A&M basketball program. After averaging 12.3 points per game last season while shooting 43% from the field, he is a star in the making who should lead the Aggies in several categories in 2025. Just an hour after Mgbako’s commitment, one of McMillan’s Samford guards, who recently entered the portal, will now follow his head coach to College Station next season.
Sophomore guard Josh Holloway is the first Samford transfer to follow McMillan to Texas A&M. Most importantly, Holloway understands McMillan’s fast-paced system and, like the rest of the transfer additions, is slated to play a key role in 2025.
Averaging 7.2 points while shooting 44% from the field, Holloway was named Sixth Man of the Year in the SoCon last season and was also a member of the All-Defensive Team. Holloway’s speed and offensive efficiency match his experience in McMillan’s press defense, which requires relentless hustle and focus.
Samford guard transfer Josh Holloway has signed with Texas A&M, @chris_hummer and I have learned for @cbssports/@247sports.
Averaged 7.9 points per game as a sophomore at Samford last season. Had 20+ points in two of the final three games.https://t.co/wkYKVSg3vhpic.twitter.com/8xXuymumcZ

With Holloway’s commitment, Texas A&M now has six players on the 2025 roster, with more additions coming sooner rather than later.
