Sam Rosen has been the voice of the New York Rangers for 40 years and during that time, he’s been one of the premier television broadcasters in hockey. After Thursday night, however, Rosen is hanging up his skates at age 77 and is retiring from broadcasting after an illustrious career.
For many Rangers fans, Rosen’s voice has been the only one they’ve known calling local games in the New York market. Not only that, he’s a figure beloved by the Rangers community and New York sports as a whole. Given his 40-year career, it’s no wonder his farewell tour garnered so much love for the long-time broadcaster.
On Thursday, after the Rangers finished up their last game of the season, fans got to hear Rosen’s final call of his career. Plus, the Rangers gave Rosen the first star of the game after all was said and done in a really nice gesture of appreciation.
