URC Judgement Day: Dragons v Scarlets
Venue: Principality Stadium, Cardiff Date: Saturday, 19 April Kick off: 17:30 BST
Coverage: Live on S4C via iPlayer; Listen live on BBC Radio Wales and BBC Sounds, the BBC Sport website and app, plus live text commentary, followed by report and reaction on the BBC Sport website and app.
Dragons co-captain Ben Carter is set for a return to action against Scarlets on Saturday after almost six months out with knee and ankle injuries.
The lock sustained an injury to his left knee while training with Wales at the end of October that required surgery.
The return of the 24-year-old was then delayed by a long-standing ankle problem which also needed an operation.
Fellow co-captain Angus O’Brien has led the side on occasions in Carter’s absence but has also been missing since suffering a fractured thumb injury in January.
The fly-half or full-back will also return for the Judgement Day date against Scarlets this weekend at the Principality Stadium, while props Rhodri Jones and Chris Coleman are also in line to return.
Scarlets are also boosted by the return of a long-term injury absentee, as full-back Tom Rogers will be available to face Dragons after recovering from a thumb injury.
The 26-year-old needed surgery after sustaining the injury while playing for Wales in their Six Nations defeat against Scotland in March.
Wales team-mate Sam Costelow is also back in training, with the fly-half having been out for three months with the broken collarbone he suffered playing for Scarlets last January.
However, Scarlets head coach Dwayne Peel says he is “not sure” if Costelow will be available to face Dragons in the Judgement Day derby.
Dragons head coach Filo Tiatia welcomed Carter’s return, praising both his playing skills and leadership qualities..
“Ben is calm around the group and is really diligent around his preparation, bringing confidence to those around him,” said Tiatia.
“He doesn’t waste his words and I enjoy the way he operates – he takes players with him.
“Ben has been great and if you look at the shape of him now to when he was injured it shows that he has worked hard.
“He was unable to play but was diligent around the things that he could control and keep improving.
“He has been awesome and I am looking forward to him being involved.”
