Paige Bueckers arrives prior to the 2025 WNBA Draft on April 14, 2025 in New York City
Paige Bueckers already has her mind set on the WNBA.
Before the WNBA draft on Monday, April 14, Bueckers, 23, revealed to PEOPLE what style change she will implement when she sets foot on the court as a member of the Dallas Wings, who used their first overall pick to draft her.
While she is known for the iconic double braid that she wore as a UConn Huskies point guard, the athlete told PEOPLE she is ready to make a change.

“I think maybe a little slick back ponytail, might be the wave, maybe bun ponytail, but I need to give my hair a break and let it breathe a little bit,” she said. “So, a break from the braids.”
Bueckers had two outfits for the WNBA draft in New York City. To walk the orange carpet, the athlete wore a custom three-piece suit with crystal embellishments designed by Coach.
The basketball star wore Coach’s Large Oversized Kisslock Frame Bag, which retails at $695, and platform loafers from the label, which retail at $195, to accessorize the black shimmery look, per Page Six.

Bueckers wore her hair down in loose waves instead of rocking her trademark double braid. Later in the night, she pulled her hair back, as she wore a similar black suit consisting of a blazer with sequins at its lapels and straight-leg pants.
For the outfit change, Bueckers added layered silver necklaces, statement rings and hoop earrings.
It was a family affair at the draft for Bueckers, who was joined by her parents, Bob Bueckers and Amy Fuller, and younger siblings Drew, Ryan and Lauren.

“I think ever since I was a young kid, I’ve always dreamed big and try to manifest my goals and work extremely hard for them and keep the faith through them, know everything’s in God’s hands,” Bueckers told PEOPLE after the event.
