Apr. 15—Alex Allain, Fryeburg Academy junior shortstop/pitcher: A two-time all-WMC selection, Allain hit .333 with three doubles and two home runs last season. He’s a key part of a deep pitching staff expected to be led by Brady Chappell.
Brady Batson, Massabesic senior pitcher: A key reason why the Mustangs went 10-8 in 2024, their best record in over 30 years, Batson was 5-0 with a 0.30 ERA and 50 strikeouts and earned first-team SMAA pitching honors.
Jameson Bryant, Cape Elizabeth senior pitcher: A 2024 first-team Western Maine Conference pitcher who has committed to play at Oberlin College, Bryant went 2-1 with 51 Ks and a 0.72 ERA in 40 innings. He also hit .333 with four doubles.
Liam Emmons, Freeport junior pitcher/center field/first baseman: Emmons was a first-team WMC pick at first base in 2024, when he hit .418 with four doubles, two homers and 14 RBI. The lefty struck out 54 hitters in 35 2/3 innings while going 4-2 with a 3.55 ERA as a sophomore.
Jacob Fish, Thornton Academy senior first baseman: A returning Varsity Maine All-State player, Fish led Class A South last season with a .463 batting average, to go with eight doubles, a triple and two home runs. He drove in 22 runs and drew 15 walks (.596 on-base percentage) while making one error.
Alec Gagnon, Yarmouth senior shortstop/pitcher: Gagnon finished last year as the starting second baseman on the Class B championship team, and his seventh-inning, two-out, two-strike triple beat Greely 2-1 in the South final. He’s one of the few varsity veterans for a team that graduated 136 of its 140 innings pitched.
Camden Gardiner, Waynflete/NYA sophomore catcher/pitcher: A returning starter, Gardiner hit .297 as a freshman and led the 6-10 co-op team with 10 RBI while playing well defensively.
Brock Gibbons, Lake Region senior outfield/pitcher: One of the best outfielders around, Gibbons was a first-team WMC utility choice in 2024, and this spring will be a key contributor for the Lakers in the middle of the order and on the hill.
Carl Gregoire, Noble junior pitcher: Gregoire is not overpowering, but the left-hander has the experience, composure and location to compete. He was 3-3 in 33 innings with a 3.57 ERA last season after a 2-2 freshman season.
Gavin Haggett, Biddeford senior pitcher: The Tigers’ big lefty and four-year varsity player is headed to Stonehill College on a baseball scholarship. As a junior, he was 4-2 with a 1.66 ERA and 60 strikeouts over 38 innings.
Easton Healy, South Portland senior shortstop/pitcher: A three-year starter and the Red Riots’ leader, Healy hit .333 with a team-high 16 steals last season. Has committed to play at University of Southern Maine.
Matthew Hebert, Sanford junior catcher: An integral part of the Spartans’ 10-7 season in 2024 and a three-year starter behind the plate, he made one error in 114 chances as a sophomore while hitting .286 with a .464 on-base percentage. He will be working with a revamped staff.
Hudson Iacuessa, South Portland junior first base/pitcher: The three-year starter will switch to first base after earning all-SMAA honors as an outfielder, when he led the Red Riots at the plate (.382, 10 RBI, 14 runs). A key part of an experienced pitching staff, he was 2-3 with a 3.35 ERA as a sophomore.
Isaac Jensen, Kennebunk senior pitcher: Both Jensen and the Rams’ all-conference shortstop, Max Andrews, were limited by injuries as juniors but should be impact players this season. With a fastball in the upper 80s, Jensen struck out 34 with a 1.74 ERA over 22 innings.
Jack Joyce, York senior pitcher/outfielder: Joyce earned all-WMC honors a year ago and does a lot for the Wildcats, who are coming off a 12-6 campaign and should be among the top teams in Class B South. Joyce was 4-1 with 49 strikeouts and a 2.98 ERA last season, while hitting .290 with five homers, four doubles and 17 RBI.
Tavian Lauture, Deering senior shortstop/pitcher: Lauture and sophomore catcher Miles Lawrence (team-best .327, 14 RBI) are among the few returners for a team that showed progress last season with a 6-11 record. Lauture struck out 29 hitters in 29 innings and is Deering’s only experienced pitcher.
Cayden McCartney, Windham senior third baseman/pitcher: McCartney hit .370 and was the SMAA first-team DH, with eight doubles and nine RBI. McCartney will pitch more this season for the Eagles, who were 7-10 with a prelim win at Kennebunk in 2024.
Trot Moody, Old Orchard Beach junior pitcher/shortstop: One of the top players in Class C South, the two-time WMC Class C all-star batted .377 with 12 extra-base hits, 25 runs and 17 stolen bases as a sophomore while going 3-3 with a 2.20 ERA.
Wyatt Nadeau, Gorham senior pitcher: After spending his junior year at a Connecticut prep school, the 6-foot-6 right-hander and Vanderbilt commit brings his mid-90s fastball with improved breaking pitches back to Gorham. Nadeau is the only player from Maine on the 50-player preseason Perfect Game Northeast (New England, New York, New Jersey, Delaware) All-Region senior team.
Josh Polchies, Falmouth senior infielder: Polchies hit .440 with seven doubles, a triple, a home run, 19 RBI and 19 runs in 16 regular-season games last year. A dynamic player with a strong arm, potent bat and good base running, he will also be a key pitcher for the Navigators.
Jacoby Porter, Falmouth junior first baseman/pitcher: A 2024 Varsity Maine All-State pick, the 6-foot-5 lefty hit .463, with seven doubles, three homers, 24 RBI and a .550 OBP last spring. He also pitched well in limited innings. This year, he will be a leader on Falmouth’s staff.
Gage Sargent, Wells senior pitcher: Sargent will take on the ace role after the graduation of all-WMC pitcher Spencer Carpenter. A year ago, Sargent had a 2.14 ERA in 36 innings for an 11-7 team that lost to eventual Class B champ Yarmouth in the regional quarterfinals.
Wyatt Soucie, Greely senior catcher: Already a two-time first-team WMC catcher, Soucie hit .421 with eight RBI and scored 27 runs as the Rangers’ leadoff hitter in 2024. He has committed to play at Wheaton College.
Bryce Stacey, Sacopee Valley senior infielder/pitcher: Stacey is a key holdover from the Hawks’ 2024 Class C championship team, when he hit .338 with 22 hits, 18 RBI and was 9 for 9 in steals. He will pitch much more after going 2-0 with 0.70 ERA in two starts as a junior.
Erik Swenson, Scarborough senior pitcher: A 2024 Varsity Maine All-State selection and the SMAA Pitcher of the Year, Swenson was 7-0 with 82 Ks in 49 2/3 innings, with a 0.98 ERA and .906 WHIP for the Class A champs. He has committed to play at Maine.
