The 2025 NFL draft is roughly one week away, and the Chicago Bears are finalizing their draft preparations before welcoming a new crop of rookies to the fold.

The Bears are primed to add some playmakers to their roster with four picks in the Top 75, including the 10th overall selection and two high second rounders. After some offseason moves to shore up their biggest needs, they have flexibility to draft the best available player rather than for need.

ESPN’s Field Yates and Mel Kiper Jr. joined forces for a three-round mock draft with just roughly a week until the NFL Draft. For the Bears, they made the move for some offensive playmakers for Ben Johnson while also addressing the offensive and defensive trenches.

We’re breaking down ESPN’s latest mock, where Yates made the odd selections and Kiper the even picks.

Round 1, Pick 10: Tyler Warren, TE, Penn State

Penn State Nittany Lions tight end Tyler Warren (44) celebrates his touchdown catch against the Boise State Broncos during their Vrbo Fiesta Bowl matchup at State Farm Stadium in Glendale on Dec. 31, 2024.

The Bears have a lot of flexibility when it comes to this 10th pick after their offseason moves to shore up the trenches. But the board also has to fall their way, which it doesn’t necessarily in this mock. Defensive tackle Mason Graham, offensive linemen Will Campbell and Armand Membou, as well as running back Ashton Jeanty, are all off the board at this point. So if Chicago can’t find a trade partner to move back in the first round, they have to go best available — and that could very well be Penn State tight end Tyler Warren.

New coach Ben Johnson would love having Warren in his offense. At 6-foot-6, Warren lines up just about anywhere, will consistently be a mismatch for defenders and can catch everything thrown in his neighborhood. The Bears focused on improving their offensive line in free agency, and now they can get Caleb Williams an elite playmaker.

New head coach Ben Johnson likes to utilize a lot of two tight end sets, but the Bears are lacking a true complement to Cole Kmet. While they signed Durham Smythe this offseason, he’ll be utilized more in a blocking role. Meanwhile, a duo of Kmet and Warren could be lethal for Chicago.

Round 2, Pick 39: TreVeyon Henderson, RB, Ohio State

Ashton Jeanty has been a popular pick to the Bears in mock drafts, especially given Ben Johnson’s work developing a 1-2 punch with Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery in Detroit. But with Jeanty off the board in the first round, Chicago still manages to land a playmaking running back in TreVeyon Henderson with their early second-round selection.

The Bears aren’t messing around on offense here. First, they got Tyler Warren. Now they can get Caleb Williams an explosive runner in the backfield. Henderson averaged 7.1 yards per carry last season and can run away from the defense.

Henderson is a dynamic threat as a runner and pass catcher, and he would be a big addition to this Bears offense. There’s certainly an argument to be made that Henderson has a similar skillset to D’Andre Swift, who’s still under contract for two years, but this is would be a move for the future. Or perhaps Chicago would even consider trading Swift.

Round 2, Pick 41: Nic Scourton, EDGE, Texas A&M

The Bears committed to overhauling the defensive trenches in free agency with the additions of defensive tackle Grady Jarrett and defensive end Dayo Odeyingbo, but they could still look to improve their pass rush in the NFL draft. Nic Scourton would be a solid addition with their early second rounder adding another edge rusher opposite Montez Sweat.

The Bears are back on the clock, and this time I have them tapping into the power and deep pass-rush move arsenal of Scourton. He had 15 sacks in the past two seasons and is stout against the run.

Scourton is the youngest edge rusher in this draft class, and he would be a great fit in Dennis Allen’s defense. He’s physical, disruptive, powerful and has the potential to wreak havoc on opposing quarterbacks.

Round 3, Pick 72: Aireontae Ersery, OT, Minnesota

Chicago overhauled the entire interior offensive line this offseason with the additions of guards Joe Thuney and Jonah Jackson, as well as center Drew Dalman. But that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t still target offensive linemen in this draft. While the Bears missed out on top prospects Will Campbell and Armand Membou in the first round, they come back to draft a tackle in Aireontae Ersery in the third round.

The Bears went after the interior of the offensive line in free agency, but Braxton Jones is coming off an ankle injury at left tackle. Ersery is a massive 6-foot-6 blocker with 39 career starts and great power.

Braxton Jones has served as the starting left tackle for the past three seasons, but he’s also coming off a fractured ankle injury that will have him limited at the start of training camp. Jones is entering a contract year where he hasn’t necessarily proven to be the long-term answer, so there would be opportunity for Ersery to compete for the starting job along with second-year pro Kiran Amegadjie.
