BASEBALL

Woonsocket 8, North Smithfield 3

Down one run heading to the sixth inning, Patrick Munger and Braylon Guilbeault came up with the hits the Villa Novans needed to take the lead and ignite the offense in an 8-3 win in Division III.

Woonsocket was quieted by North Smithfield ace Tyler Albino through the first five innings and came to bat in the sixth down 2-1.

Chris Bousquet led off with a bunt single and a walk to Noah Leverault had the Novans buzzing. Munger followed with an RBI single that tied the game and two batters later, Guilbeault came through with an RBI single of his own to put Woonsocket up 3-2.

The offense didn’t stop there. Maxymus Garneau added an RBI single and an RBI groundout by Juleus Perez put the Novans up 5-2. The momentum carried over to the seventh, where Woonsocket put the game away with a run by Joe Greenless on a Northman error, a sac fly by Levereaultand another RBI single by Munger.

Munger finished the game 4-for-4 with two RBI and one run. Bousquet went 3-for-4 with two runs and on RBI. Garneau pitched a complete game for Woonsocket, giving up three runs – two earned – and striking out five.

Albino provided most of the pop for North Smithfield, driving in two runs.

Nolan Urian, South Kingstown baseball

Division I

South Kingstown 10, Cranston East 1

The Rebels piled up 11 hits and two big innings to cruise past the Thunderbolts in this Division I matchup. DH Nolan Urian had a monster day at the plate, going 3-3 with 5 RBIs, with Jonah MonnesBrayden Rosen and Jack Noonan each recording a pair of hits on the day. Monnes pitched 5 innings, striking out 7, before giving way to Connor Wokoske who threw the final 2 frames, striking out a pair. 

Ethan Torres led Cranston East, going 3-3 at the plate in the loss.

Division II

Narragansett 7, Johnston 0

Zayden Kent (6 innings, 12 strikeouts) and Keller Prendergast (1 inning) combined to pitch a no hitter for the Mariners in this Division II contest. Aidan ClanceyVito Paglia and Jackson DiFilippo each had two hits for Narragansett in the victory, with Prendergast driving in a pair. For the Panthers, Anthony Vendetti (6 strikeouts) and Anthony Scorpio each pitched 3 innings in the loss. Johnston vs. Narragansett at Sprague Park, 4 p.m.

Evan Levasseur, Middletown baseball.

Middletown 3, Burrillville 0

The Islanders’ Evan Levasseur struck out 8, allowed a pair of hits and walked just 1 in a complete-game victory over the Broncos in this Division II clash. Bill Johnson drove in the lone earned run for Middletown to seal the victory. Burrillville’s Cameron Laramee struck out 9 over 6 innings in the loss.

Scituate 11, Rogers 1

Travis Howman pitched a 1-hitter while striking out 9 and Jackson Scanlan drilled 3 hits as the Spartans posted the victory in a game called after 5 innings due to the mercy rule. Scituate jumped out to a 3-run lead in the first inning, then exploded for 6 runs in the fourth to blow the game open. Rogers at Scituate, 4 p.m.

Division I

Prout 14, Moses Brown 2

The Crusaders’ bats were in top form early, plating 3 runs in the first inning and not letting up in a mercy-rule shortened contest. Rachel Dias drove in three runs with a homer, and scored 2 more and Lucy Kaiser was 2-3, with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored. In total, Prout pounded out 8 hits in the win. In the circle, Lily Sheehan and Kaiser combined to allow just 3 hits over 5 innings. For the Quakers, Celia Bodurtha and Coco Medeiros each drove in a run in the loss. 

Burrillville/NS 10, North Providence 0

Kenzie Storme and Macey Polacek combined to pitch a 5-inning shutout (mercy rule) and teammate Alivia Fantoni, hitting last, had three hits and three RBI in the Broncos’ victory. Also collecting 3 hits in the win was Adrianna Carter, who had 2 doubles and an RBI. MaKenna Heon had two of the Cougars’ 3 hits in the loss.

Nonleague

Pilgrim 6, at Waterford (Conn.) 2

Madison Tuirok led the way to victory for the Patriots with three singles in four at-bats. Waterford took the lead in the first inning with a homer off of Patriots pitcher Gretchen Dombeck, who went seven innings, struck out six batters and walked only one. Tuirok, Adriana PettinatoCarli Harker and Hanna Fitzpatrick drove in one run each for Pilgrim. The Patriots stole seven bases during this game and their defense was error-free.

🥍BOYS LACROSSE

Division I

Pilgrim 9, Smithfield 1

The Patriots offense controlled most of the game and left little opportunity for the Sentinels to score in a 9-1 win.

Pilgrim carried momentum from its 14-1 win over Cranston West Monday right into Wednesday’s battle with D-II Smithfield. Brett Taylor paced the offense with four goals and Ricky Cabral and Marcus Walsh both scored two. Chris Schifino didn’t see much action, making one save in the win for the Patriots.

Rogers 5, Narragansett 4

The hosts were up, 3-1, at the half but the Vikings conquered the second half and outscored the Mariners, 4-2, in the second frame. Luke Mathews led Rogers with 3 goals while Jack Mathews helped out with 2 goals and 2 assists. Connor Hole-Young and Rocky Ramsey had an assist each for the Vikings. Goaltender Angel Brito made 8 saves.

La Salle 12, Bishop Feehan 4

 Jacob Wilson and Lachlan Got each scored 3 goals, Nick Loo added a goal and 2 assists, and Quinn Peterson and Quincy Marino each had a goal and an assist as the Rams won their opening game of the season.  Christian Koness and John Rodehorse each added a single tally and Quinn O’Rourke had 2 assists in the victory.

🥍GIRLS LACROSSE

Westerly 12, South Kingstown 8

Casey Macera led all scorers with 8 goals while Erica NybergGianna FalconeMaggie Scanapieco and Nora Zerbarini had single tallies, propeling the Bulldogs to the victory. Leading the Rebels’ attack were Mia Moffitt and Hadley Cottrell, who each had 3 goals.

Cumberland 16, North Smithfield 1

Lucy Biggs and Delaney Kennedy each scored 4 goals, Abby Skurka had a hat trick and Brooke Tellier and Ella Pirri each had a pair of tallies as the Clippers cruised to an easy victory. Dylan Stenovitch had a single score. Eva Corriveau had the goal for the Northmen. Cumberland at Portsmouth, 7 p.m.

Middletown 11, Mt. Hope 5

🏐BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Division I

Cranston West 3, East Providence 1

Ashton Mak had 30 assists and 8 digs, Eli Lopez recorded 10 kills and Ziyue Wang had 12 kills and 4 digs in the Falcons victory (25-19, 26-25, 25-20,  25-23). For the Townies, Jordan Rodriguez had 15 kills and 12 digs and Brandon Mimande made 16 kills in the loss. 

Division II

South Kingstown 3, Woonsocket 0

Ben Wright led the Rebels with 15 assists and 5 aces as South Kingstown swept the Villa Novans. Luke Brock assisted Wright with 4 kills, 4 aces and 2 digs while Ezra Lanz amassed 5 kills 2 aces and 2 digs.

For Woonsocket, Aaron Uttley had 11 kills and 2 blocks, Andrew Bissonette had 14 assists, 4 kills and 2 blocks while Jaydel DeJesus ended up with 3 kills and 5 blocks. 

Westerly 3, Johnston 1

Henry Kenyon had 10 kills and 4 blocks, James Manfredi had an ace and 16 assists and Nate Paciga recorded 12 kills and 5 blocks in the Bulldogs’ win (25-13, 24-26, 25-14, 25-20) over the Panthers.

Lincoln 3, Pawtucket 2

It appeared to be grim for the Lions after the first and third games of the night, as they fell behind, 2-1, before taking over in the fourth game with a 25-11 victory. In the rubber game, they dominated, 15-6, to conquer the Pawtucket Co-op (29-31, 25-18, 22-25, 25-11, 15-6).Lincoln was led by Jackson Colton with 13 kills and 7 blocks, while Sebastian DeCubellis contributed 47 assists. The Lions’ Tyler Biddle had 19 kills and 14 digs, John Barros amassed 30 digs and Brian Gugel had 11 kills.

On the Pawtucket side, Hayson Ortiz had 8 kills and Milk Senepha ended up with 11 digs

Division III

Portsmouth 3, Achievement 0

Jack Loper recorded 24 assists and 4 digs, Alex Goss  had 5 kills, 11 assists, and Jack Casey had 15 kills and 3 digs in the Patriots’ win over AF (25-21, 25-6, 25-14).

Pilgrim 3, Toll Gate 0

Six kills and 6 aces by Sam Skinner and 12 assists by Gabe Orduna helped the Patriots to a 25-21, 25-16, 25-14 sweep. Ryan Waleryszak had  3 kills and 2 aces for the Titans.
