What to Know
Marquette and Seton Hall are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2020, but not for long. Both will face off in a Big East battle at 8:00 p.m. ET on Tuesday at Prudential Center. Neither of these teams found much success offensively their last time out, scoring well below their season average.
Marquette is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Xavier just ended the team’s six-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell just short of the Musketeers by a score of 59-57. The game marked the Golden Eagles’ lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
David Joplin put forth a good effort for the losing side as he earned 18 points along with six rebounds. What’s more, he also racked up four assists, the most he’s had since back in February of 2024.
Meanwhile, Seton Hall’s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their third straight defeat. It’s going to take some time for them to recover from the 79-51 bruising that St. John’s dished out on Saturday. The Pirates were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 39-16.
Garwey Dual put forth a good effort for the losing side as he earned eight points in addition to six steals and three blocks. His performance made up for a slower match against Butler on Wednesday. Less helpful for Seton Hall was Isaiah Coleman’s abysmal 0-5 three-point shooting.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Seton Hall struggled to work together and finished the game with only seven assists. That’s the fewest assists they’ve posted since back in March of 2024.
Marquette’s loss ended a ten-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 15-3. As for Seton Hall, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-12.
Marquette strolled past Seton Hall in their previous matchup back in January of 2024 by a score of 75-57. The rematch might be a little tougher for Marquette since the squad won’t have the home-court advantage this time around. We’ll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
