The West Indies have unveiled a solid 15-player squad for their upcoming ODI tour of Ireland and England. With eyes set firmly on the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, these six matches in Europe mark an important step in their preparations.

Captain Shai Hope will lead a familiar core of players, many of whom featured in the impressive 3-0 sweep of Bangladesh last year. The squad signals continuity, but also includes exciting young talent like Jewel Andrew, who earned attention with standout performances at the Under-19 World Cup. Amir Jangoo, who struck a century on debut, also retains his place.

Shimron Hetmyer and Nicholas Pooran are notable omissions. Hetmyer continues his stint in the IPL, while Pooran hasn’t featured in ODIs since 2023. Despite their absence, the squad still boasts depth, particularly in the batting lineup with Brandon King and Evin Lewis likely to open, followed by Keacy Carty.

Coach Daren Sammy emphasized the tour’s importance, noting the team is beginning to find consistency. “These matches are vital for our World Cup journey. We’re building a mindset and culture focused on the kind of cricket we want to be known for,” he said.

The squad also sees the return of fast bowlers Shamar Joseph and Matthew Forde, both recovered from injury. Spin options are led by Gudakesh Motie, who impressed during the recent T20 World Cup.

Off the field, there are changes too. Ravi Rampaul, part of the 2012 T20 World Cup-winning side, takes over as bowling coach. He replaces James Franklin, while Ireland legend Kevin O’Brien will lend support during the Irish leg of the tour.

The three-match series against Ireland begins on May 21 in Dublin, followed by ODIs against England starting May 29. A three-game T20 series against England will follow, with that squad yet to be announced.

Currently ranked ninth in the world, West Indies are keen to climb the rankings and avoid the qualification playoffs for 2027. With a blend of experience and youth, this tour could prove a turning point in their white-ball journey.

As the Caribbean side takes on European conditions, all eyes will be on whether they can continue the momentum they’ve started to build.
